Depending on Qualifications

Degree and area of specialization:
Bachleor's degree in business, management, finance, marketing, or related field required. Master's of Business Administration or related field preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience at a management level which requires addressing complex business problems and/or business ownership experience.
-An understanding of how small business operates and is able to work with individual business owners to identify challenges and opportunities and craft solutions.
-Experience writing business plans and creating marketing plans.
-Experience with human resource management.
-Ability to prepare basic financial forecasts and analyze and interpret financial statements.
-Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Ability to demonstrate high level of customer service.

Well qualified candidates will also be able to demonstrate excellent public speaking, presenation skills, and has experience with social media.

Position Summary:
The SBDC at UW-Madison is part of an accredited Wisconsin network of 12 centers located at four year UW campuses. Wisconsin SBDCs are funded and managed in collaboration with UW-Extension and are part of a national network of nearly 1,000 centers. We support entrepreneurs and business owners through no-cost, confidential consulting and targeted educational programs. Regional SBDC experts facilitate improvement and growth for small and emerging mid-size companies and help launch successful new enterprises.

This triage consulting position will work with all incoming requests for consultation. They will be primarily in charge of vetting client requests and assigning clients to Sr. Business Consultants. In many cases they will reply to clients directly with the appropriate information. They may also work closely with their own small business clients in the research and development of business plans, marketing plans, loan proposals and related topics. The consultant will work with clients to increase sales and profits, obtain financing and improve operations. They also need to capture and record all client interactions in the confidential SBDC client database in a timely and thorough fashion.

In addition, the consultant will promote the SBDC services through networking and events in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. They will also be responsible for promoting the center on social media.

Additional Information:
Regional travel required. Must be able to work some evenings. Depending on workload, this position will fluctuate between 50% through 75% during the year.
