NURSE PRACTITIONER - ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE RESEARCH


Position Summary:
The Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) conducts research in the field of aging and dementia, and seeks to establish prevention, treatment and diagnostic tests for Alzheimer's disease. The successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigators (PIs) and the clinical research team with the operations of clinical research studies under the guidelines of research protocols and UW Madison policies. This involves participating in the administration and management of study participants enrolled in a wide-variety of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored trials. A significant portion of the work will involve traveling across the country in tandem with University of Wisconsin Survey Center (UWSC) staff for in-home visits with participants of a longitudinal, multi-disciplinary study. In addition, the candidate will be trained to perform lumbar puncture procedures with research participants seen during study visits conducted at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
The successful candidate must be a graduate from an accredited nursing school, and hold a current RN license to practice in Wisconsin. The successful candidate must also be certified to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Wisconsin.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Two years experience working with geriatric patients preferred. Prior experience in clinical research studies and conducting in home visits preferred. The applicant should have the ability to work both independently and cooperatively, and be comfortable performing procedures after being trained.

License or Certificate:
Current Registered Nurse License for the State of Wisconsin required.

The incumbent will be expected to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job, and maintain a high level of professionalism and collegiality in interactions with participants, patients, and team members.

The applicant's prior work experience should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, sound clinical judgement, good social skills, and ability to multi-task.

Travel is required to conduct study visits in participants' homes across the country in coordination with University of Wisconsin Survey Center field interviewers. The cost of flights, hotel stays, and rental cars for outside the Midwest will be covered, but may require upfront costs (up to ~$500) to be paid by the employee. Must have own insured vehicle for in-home participant visits in the Midwest. Amount of travel will vary from week to week, but is estimated at 3-5 days per week. Some study visits to participants' homes will occur in the evening and on weekends. UWSC field interviewers will be scheduling in-home visits (including allocation of travel time) using a pre-negotiated schedule block of time that the applicant will need to follow.
