Job Summary:

This position provides program support to the supervisory, administrative, and laboratory staff within the Newborn Screening Department at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), under limited progressing to general supervision by the Chemist Supervisor.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: review of patient test requisitions and electronic orders; accurate entry of patient demographic information for both in-state and out-of-state clients, point-of-care screen results, and other information provided on the requisition; review of quality assessment reports, perform and document corrective actions to patient record, obtain missing demographic information; respond to requests for patient reports; assist with document control functions; assist with telephone coverage, triaging and prioritizing incoming calls and faxes; provide coverage to specimen receiving; perform maintenance of peripheral equipment.
The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in their daily work including the following: Demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisor, co-workers and all customers; have working knowledge of medical terminology; uphold confidentiality requirements; provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the WSLH and its mission; use data collection tools as appropriate; use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit; present ideas, carry out assignments and provide information as required.
High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education preferred. Ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 words per minute is required. Typing test will be administered to candidates selected for in-person interview. Prior experience with EPIC software or other data entry work experience preferred. Prior experience in a newborn screening laboratory is preferred. Candidate must successfully complete a background check. Handling of biological specimens is required. Ability to lift and move containers up to 40 lbs is required. Ability to sit for prolonged periods is required. No funds will be provided for relocation. In-person interview required prior to offer to hire. Candidate must be available for training during weekdays.
