MARKETING AND SALES MANAGER


Position Summary:
The Marketing and Sales Manager oversees the marketing and sales efforts, including publicity and promotion, of the books division within the University of Wisconsin Press; serves as a senior member of the press's senior management team; supervises marketing and sales staff; and reports to the press's director.

The University of Wisconsin Press was established in 1936 and is part of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The UW Press is a nonprofit publisher of books, journals, and other works. It has published more than 3,000 titles since its inception and employs over 20 staff (including academic and university staff, limited term employees, and graduate and undergraduate students). The press currently publishes approximately 50 books per year and 12 journals, in both print and electronic formats.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
- Minimum of five years of professional work experience with at least three years of experience in scholarly book marketing or a combination of scholarly and other book marketing.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a wide variety of audiences. Must be able to communicate effectively with academics and scholars, staff, and vendors.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to oversee production of marketing copy for a variety of uses and to present seasonal lists to national book buyers and review media.
- Experience successfully planning and implementing marketing and publicity campaigns.
- Experience monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on marketing efforts and usage.
- Excellent organizational skills, with a proven track record of effectively managing multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines.
- Experience successfully managing staff to achieve shared goals.
- Experience developing and managing project or departmental budgets.
- Ability to manage the timely and accurate dissemination of bibliographic metadata.
