Degree and area of specialization:

A bachelor's degree is required. Specialization in journalism, communications, English, biology or other natural science is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

At least 2 years of professional experience managing and editing print and/or online communications required. Five or more years preferred.

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate:
-- Superior writing and editing skills.
-- Ability to translate complex material into communications that are accessible to non-scientific audiences.
-- Strong organizational skills and an unfailing track record of meeting deadlines.
-- Success working with designers, photographers, and writers to produce high-level editorial projects.
-- Facility handling multiple projects.
--Experience in budget management.
-- Creativity to conceive and execute new ideas for reaching out to targeted audiences.

Position Summary:

This position is part of the Office of External Relations for the UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and contributes significantly to the overall external relations strategies for the college by ensuring alignment between college priorities and communication channels, messages and target audiences. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing several significant projects that communicate the work of the college to external and internal audiences. The position reports to the Associate Dean for External Relations and Advancement.
