Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree required; preferably in information systems, computer science, or related field. Consideration will be given to candidates with a degree in another field who have extensive work experience in software development.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Five or more years of database-driven web application development experience is required.

Technology-specific requirements include:
- 5+ years experience with Microsoft .NET (C#, ASP.NET, Visual Studio, IIS)
- 5+ years experience with relational database development (Oracle preferred)
- 5+ years experience with relevant web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, JSON, and Web Services
- Experience with code repositories (Git, Team Foundation Server)
- Experience with front-end frameworks (Angular, Node.js)
- Proficiency with object-oriented programming

Expert knowledge of application development concepts, the software development lifecycle, and business analysis and project management methodologies.

Demonstrated ability to conceive of, optimize, or augment business processes, and translate business requirements to information systems.

Demonstrated leadership skills, prior experience in a technical team leadership role, and proven ability to implement software development approaches and methodologies in a team-based development setting.

Exceptional attention to detail, boundless curiosity, enviable organizational skills, and proven ability to clearly and effectively communicate business and technical information, both verbally and in writing.

Proven track record of providing a high level of customer service and delivering results.

Our team seeks an experienced professional to serve as a Lead Application Developer to provide technical leadership over our software development process and be a key technical adviser on our team. We seek a person who is looking to use their technical knowledge and leadership skills to be responsible for our approach to software development and to successfully launch and maintain quality products. In addition to software development mastery, the ideal candidate will have experience balancing a portfolio of work, and will handle competing priorities with grace, equanimity, and keen attention to detail. The Lead Application Developer possesses a natural curiosity and takes initiative in improving and implementing processes and tools to continually advance the effectiveness of our dynamic team of developers.

The work of our team serves important constituents of the campus and abroad:
- Researchers who need to comply with federal, state and university policies on research,
- Faculty and staff with myriad administrative obligations and activities related to their roles on campus,
- University leadership teams that administer competitions for funding and make organizational decisions,

Additional Information:
The Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education (VCRGE) serves as the chief research officer and the principal advisor to the Chancellor and the Provost on research and graduate education. The VCRGE provides oversight for the institution's broad research enterprise including a university-wide array of faculty and staff research programs with total annual expenditures of more than $1 billion, and promotes graduate education and research by enhancing funding support from internal and external agencies including the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). The VCRGE is responsible for an array of multidisciplinary research centers and institutes, research policy and compliance which includes conflict of interest, human subjects, animal welfare and responsible conduct of research and negotiation of industry contracts.

The VCRGE is responsible for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School. The Graduate School provides an instructional and research environment for approximately 9,000 graduate students in over 150 fields at the master?s and doctoral levels, overseeing almost 200 programs, certificates, and minors stretching across virtually every school and college in the university. The Graduate School receives nearly 20,000 applications from all fifty states and 140 different countries of the world, and confers more than 750 Ph.D's and 1,800 master's degrees each year. The Graduate School works in concert with other campus units, faculty, and staff to provide guidance and resources that support over 800 postdoctoral researchers and scholars in their professional development. OVCRGE - Information Technology (OVCRGE IT) is a technical services and solutions provider. We design, build, support, and enhance systems, applications, and administrative tools used by faculty, researchers, university leadership teams, administrative staff, graduate students, applicants for graduate study and external entities which address the complex challenges of UW-Madison's research enterprise and support excellence in graduate education.

The incumbent of this position will work in our office on the UW-Madison campus. You must reside in and be eligible to work in the United States. OVCRGE is not able to provide sponsorship for this position.
