Position Summary:
The Health Sciences Institutional Review Boards (HS IRBs) Office is responsible for ensuring the protection of human subjects participating in biomedical and health sciences research projects, ranging from clinical trials to community-based research. The office works closely with a variety of constituencies including researchers, IRB members, regulatory support staff, post-approval monitoring groups, and offices across campus that support the research community. The IRB Reliance Specialist, working under the supervision of the HS IRBs Office Director and Associate Director, will serve as a member of the HS IRBs Office Reliance Team. The Reliance Team is responsible for managing IRB reliance arrangements with other institutions and commercial IRBs. The HS IRBs Office has been a national leader in single IRB review and helping to drive processes to ensure compliant and efficient reliance arrangements.

This position would serve as the primary liaison managing the submission process of University of Wisconsin-Madison clinical trial protocols that qualify for review by a commercial IRB and the National Cancer Institute Central IRB. In addition, the IRB Reliance Specialist would provide other support to the Reliance Team regarding reliance requests and arrangements that involve non-commercial IRBs as well as requests for a UW-Madison HS IRB to serve as a Reviewing IRB. This position also would be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive program, developing process and educational resources as needed in support of applicable reliance arrangements. The School of Medicine and Public Health has a deep and profound commitment to diversity both as an end in itself but, also as a valuable means for eliminating health disparities. As such, we strongly encourage applications from candidates who foster and promote the values of diversity and inclusion.
