Degree and area of specialization:
An Associate's Degree or Certificate in Instrumentation Technology is preferred or four years of relevant professional experience will equal the higher education level requirement.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
A minimum of 2-7 years' experience maintaining control and process measurement systems commonly used in utility plants, wastewater treatment facilities, chemical plants, and other industrial plants.

Title and pay rate will be decided at time of hire based on qualifications and experience.

Position Summary:
Under general supervision of a Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) Administrator/Power Plant Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, troubleshooting and installing process control instrumentation. These devices are used for the operation of the UW owned Heating and Cooling Plants which currently includes multiple-automation systems and instrumentation devices not limited to Johnson Controls; Delta-V; Allen-Bradley; Woodward; Foxboro; Rosemount; Yokogawa; ABB; Fisher Controls and other internal database applications.

The primary function of this position is to Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair pneumatic, electronic, electrical, and computerized controls used to operate boilers, and associated power plant equipment. Perform diagnostics to isolate problems. Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair a wide variety of metering instruments and recording instruments used to measure and control pressure, vacuum, flow, level, speed, etc. Assist in equipment start-ups and shut downs as required. Use a variety of test equipment to include manometer, pyrometer, multimeter, tachometer, conductivity tester, signal transmitter, oscilloscope. Use various hand tools and operate portable power tools. Read and interpret complicated and intricate blue prints and diagrams of metering systems and pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and computerized equipment. Submit work orders outlining system/equipment problems and work accomplished, as required. Maintain adequate stock of spare parts. Assist in training operating personnel in the use of control and metering equipment, as required. Install, repair, and calibrate metering and control equipment.

Special focus for these positions will be programs not limited to Power Plant Instrumentation Maintenance, Calibration, and Configure HART smart devices using a HART communicator; Assist with Ongoing Development of Instrumentation Program; Utilize Asset Management System to Monitor Plant Instrumentation Alarms and Integrity; Utility Metering. Maintains records of equipment repair and maintains inventory of spare parts and other materials.
The incumbent while utilizing their skills will continue to expand their controls and mechanical systems knowledge to support the UW at a degree or certified system level.

- Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft package) and applications used for control systems or devices (e.g. Johnson Controls; Delta-V; Allen-Bradley; Woodward; Foxboro; Rosemount; Yokogawa; ABB; Fisher Controls etc.) .
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of cost and energy related techniques and operations.
- Knowledge of the operation and use of safety devices.
- Skill in developing point thresholds and resulting alarm messages or trending logs.
- Skill in problem solving, team building and team participation related to automation enhancement.
- Skill in oral and written communication, and techniques for developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in communication, including interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
- Ability to develop reports displaying data from computer programs and databases.
- Ability to install, implement and analyze new software and user interfaces.
- Ability to navigate around a network of servers, workstations, controllers and remote hardware to pinpoint problems or anomalies.
- Ability to work under unpleasant working conditions (confined, dirty spaces and extreme hot and cold).
- Ability to frequently bend, craw, stoop.
- Ability to stand on feet for sustained periods.
- Ability to present and maintain a neat physical appearance.
