Job Summary:
This position supports the UW-Madison Department of Physics. The department has approximately 400 employees, composed of faculty, academic staff, university staff, research associates, graduate and undergraduate students.

Under the general direction of the department administrator, this position functions as the human resources and payroll/benefits representative for the Department. This position is responsible for all phases of faculty, academic staff, limited and post-degree trainee and university staff positions including recruitment, visa processing, hiring, orientation, payroll, evaluation, promotion, classification, reclassification and termination activities. This position also assists the department administrator in on-going evaluation of division-wide human resource alignment, policy development, enforcement of division-level policies, employment relations, and terminations. In addition, this position serves as department liaison to the College of Letters and Science, the UW Service Center, and campus offices for human resources, payroll, and visa issues.

This position coordinates and processes all appointments (faculty, academic staff, research assistants, fellowships, university staff and student hourly). This position completes bi-weekly and monthly payrolls for all faculty, academic satff, limited and post-degree trainee appointments listed above.

For the incumbent to be successful, extensive knowledge of campus HR processes will be needed. This includes knowledge of international student and employee requirements for payroll authorization. Many activities will also require the incumbent to be proficient utilizing a variety of databases (e.g, CHRIS, PVL, HRS, JEMS, TREMS, etc.).

Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., somewhat flexible.
