HUMAN GENOME ANALYST


Position Summary:
The recently established, Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine at the School of Medicine and Public Health, is to lead a large-scale expansion of the University's activities in applied genomics and personalized medicine. The CHGPM's multifaceted application of genome sciences to clinical medicine encompasses basic, translational and clinical research as well as educational activities and community outreach. The Center now is entering a phase of rapid growth and is hiring a Human Genome Analyst for its Clinical Genomics Core.

UW-Madison has a robust human genetics/genomics community that supports the oldest and largest NIH-funded training graduate program in genetics, an MSc genetic counselling program, and ABMG-accredited fellowship programs. We benefit from a strong clinical and scientific infrastructure, including a 13-faculty clinical/metabolic genetics group, Departments of Medical Genetics and Genetics, the Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Waisman Center, the Genome Center of Wisconsin, and the UW Hospital and Clinics. In addition, over the next two years we expect to recruit 15+ new Center-affiliated faculty with expertise in human genomics and/or precision medicine. Members of the Center have access to all of the benefits of a preeminent public research university that is 6th in the nation in research funding. Degree and Area of Specialization:
An MD and/or PhD in human genetics/genomics or a related field is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
- A minimum of two years' post-graduate experience in a molecular diagnostics/genome analysis environment is strongly preferred.
- A strong research background in gene discovery is preferred.
- Robust interpersonal and organizational abilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a talent for working independently and multitasking efficiently are expectations.

License or Certificate:
Applicants who are board-certified or board-eligible in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or Clinical Molecular Genetics and by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics are preferred as well as applicants who hold equivalent foreign certification in molecular diagnostics.

Additional Information:
In addition to quantitative research skills, the successful applicant will also demonstrate competence in standard office productivity software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as well as a demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality.
