Degree and area of specialization:
Degree in Accounting Information System (AIS), Accounting, Finance, or other related field preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Knowledge and Skills
1. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and demonstrated ability to apply GAAP standards in business setting.
2. Knowledge of and experience in Accounts Receivable systems and their set up and administration, preferably with a background in Student Accounts Receivables and PeopleSoft.
3. Considerable knowledge of and experience in handling complex data from multiple sources.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and administrative officials and department/division heads.
6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment collaborating with other employees.
7. Experience with the University student administration system (SIS) and Shared Financial System (WISDM) are preferred.
8. Ability to interpret complex rules and regulations and determine their correct application to business processes.
9. Ability to apply independent judgment to determine correct course of action and decide which of a number of policies, regulations, or procedures apply to a particular situation.

Position Summary:
The Bursar's Office, one of the units within the Division of Business Services, provides tuition collection, cashiering, and student loan services to University of Wisconsin - Madison students, parents, and campus divisions and departments.
The Accounting and Financial Reporting team within the Bursar's Office is responsible for the accurate collection, recording, and redistribution of tuition revenue for the UW-Madison campus. This revenue amounts to over $600 million dollars annually and is collected from over 40,000 student tuition accounts.
This position, under the general supervision of the Assistant Bursar for Accounting and Financial Reporting, will perform accounting duties, including processing financial transactions in the Student Information System (SIS), CashNet payment balancing, accounting journal entries, and fiscal administration.
