Job Summary:
The Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is a multidisciplinary research institution serving clinical and translational investigators across the the University of Wisconsing Campus and in communities throughout the state. . Through a variety of programs, the institute produces investigators who can overcome obstacles to conducting clinical and translational research, often by listening to and working with communities. ICTR provides substantial services to investigators, including biostatistical support, clinical trial facilities, help in connecting with communities, and Internet access to other researchers with similar interests.
This position performs highly responsible professional accounting and analytical services involving a broad variety of complex fiscal management and accounting activities. The incumbent is responsible for the fiscal coordination and management of the $2.5 million ICTR KL2 award, and the $1million ICTR pilot program, involving collaboration and communication with departments across campus; as well as the coordination of all activities related to the the research billing activities of the Health Sciences Institutional Review Board.
Additional duties include: monitoring and coordination of fiscal year end closing; monitoring expenditures and reconciling fund balances; interpreting grant and endowment requirements and deadlines and ensuring expenditures are in line with these requirements; recommending action on various accounting questions; and serving as a business operations resource person for accounting policy interpretation and implementation.
This position will also produce and maintain ICTR fiscal-related standard operating procedures and provide training as needed to ICTR staff members. The incumbent will also provide training to principal investigators or their designees on how to review and analyze their own financial data.
ICTR's annual operating budget is approximately $18,750,000. Funding sources include a $41,000,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health, the Wisconsin Partnership for a Healthy Future, The University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation, the School of Medicine and Public Health, the Graduate School, and others.
An understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required. Due to the highly specialized nature of this department, the incumbent requires a working knowledge of, or ability to quickly grasp, the concepts of clinical and translational research processes. Initiative, judgment, and independent decision-making is also required in order to achieve ICTR goals and maintain fiscal management. The incumbent must also be able to handle multiple, multi-faceted and detailed responsibilities.
All ICTR employees are expected to demonstrate professionalism by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with managers, supervisor(s), co-workers, faculty, staff, and customers.
Requirements:
Experience Required:
-A minimum of two years of experience in general financial activities
-The ability to work effectively independently, as well as part of a team
-Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
-Well-developed analytical, organizational, and time management skills
-The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgement
-Customer service skills
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred experience:
-Prior UW experience in purchase card site management, E reimbursement, and knowledge of HRS, Shared Financial Systems, WISDM, and Great Plains
-Knowledge of state statutes, federal regulations (including NIH policies), administrative rules and departmental polices
-Knowledge of and experience with academic research regulations and maintenance of study accounts
