Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field and an outstanding record of teaching and research relevant to high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy of biomolecules or cellular function.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
This is a tenure-track (junior) or tenured (mid-career or senior) position. Candidates for a tenured position must possess a sustained record of professional achievement as indicated by outstanding sponsored research and publications, teaching, and demonstrated leadership activities in the field over a minimum of at least 4 years. The successful candidate will bring both exceptional potential to advance a contemporary area of cellular or molecular biosciences and strength in the science of cryo-electron microscopy. An emphasis in single-particle structures, cryo-electron tomography, or both is expected. The candidate will carry out a vigorous, externally funded research program at the forefront of the application or development of cryo-electron microscopy, or both. The candidate will also teach graduates and undergraduates in the Biochemistry curriculum.

Candidates who have already identified active, compelling biological research interests suitable for investigation using cryo-electron microscopy; who show exemplary skills in public presentation, teaching and scholarly writing; and who have interests in participating in the sustainable operation of state-of-the-art research infrastructure at UW-Madison are highly desirable. Early-stage investigators, those with more established research programs, and those with diverse backgrounds, worldwide, are invited to apply.

Position Summary:
This faculty position is central to a broader cryo-electron microscopy initiative at UW-Madison that includes biomolecular, cellular, and computational sciences, multiple colleges, and development of state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy facilities. The person hired will bring both exceptional potential to advance a contemporary area of cellular or molecular biosciences and strength in the science of cryo-electron microscopy. The position includes a commitment to the important functions of research, instruction, and outreach, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to faculty rank.
