Position Summary:

This position resides in the Communicable Disease Division (CDD) of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). The employee in this position functions as an outreach specialist for WSLH, and will be stationed at the Wisconsin Division of Public Health (WDPH), Communicable Diseases Epidemiology Section. Primary duties of the position include, but are not limited to: 1) Working closely with the WSLH Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network (ARLN) coordinator to establish a state-wide and midwest regional network of laboratories and public health departments whose function it is to detect, investigate, and prevent further occurrences of antimicrobial resistant pathogens; 2) Assisting WDPH epidemiologists with investigations of antimicrobial resistant organisms or other organisms of public health significance; 3) Working with the WSLH ARLN coordinator to prepare monthly update reports, comprehensive annual reports, and assist in both the writing of grant proposals and ensuring that funded grant deliverables are met; 4) Along with the Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI) Coordinator at WDPH, overseeing and coordinating ARLN epidemiology activities for WDPH at local, state, and regional levels; 5) Performing training of other outreach specialists or epidemiologists as needed and determined by ARLN, WDPH and WSLH leadership; 6) Participating in meetings, conferences, workshops and trainings, some of which may require travel.

Successful completion of duties outlined above will require excellent teamwork and communication skills. This position works closely with WDPH Communicable Diseases Epidemiology Section staff, and collaboratively with WSLH laboratory staff to assist with program-related disease surveillance and laboratory testing activities, respectively. Data management, application and use of epidemiologic principles and practices, teaching/training, outreach activities, grant writing and grant-related budget preparation skills will also be necessary. Primary work hours are 7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday with weekend, holiday and emergency response activities required as public health emergency situations arise.

Additional Information:

This position requires travel as needed and determined by WDPH leadership. Applicants must be available for on-call public health emergencies when public health emergency situations arise. Effective ARLN coordination will require strong communication and organizational skills. The primary working location for this position will be the Wisconsin Department of Health Services building, located at 1 West Wilson St, Madison, WI 53703.
