Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field preferred OR equivalent experience.

Required:
Experience in human resources, business, or related field.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, knowledge and understanding of people management competencies such as coaching, managing conflict, and communications.
Strong organizational skills.

Knowledge and/or experience with Classification and Compensation

Position Summary:

This position functions as a human resources manager in the College of Engineering. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean for Human Resources, this position is responsible for advising faculty and supervisors in all areas of human resources management for all types of employment types in the College. This position manages and leads activities related to the classification, recruitment, and staffing of all permanent academic and university staff positions, temporary appointments, students, as well as graduate assistant positions. This position must be expert in a wide variety of complex human resources laws, policies and procedures covering all types of employment such as those delineated in Wisconsin Statutes, Wisconsin Administrative Code, UW System Personnel Guidelines, OHR Personnel Policies & Procedures, as well as a variety of state and federal employment laws such as FLSA, Family and Medical Leave Acts, and ADA. This position must also keep current on compensation issues related to the College and provide expert advice in setting salaries using compensation concepts for FAASLI and University Staff positions.

The incumbent is expected to demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with faculty, supervisors, coworkers, and all customers. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information with tact and discretion. Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit. Present ideas, carry out assignments, and provide information as required. Effectively share knowledge and skills obtained through professional development. Serve as partners/team members with departments in regard to overall HR management and services.
