Degree and area of specialization:
Master's degree required in a relevant field such as Finance, Business, Public Administration, accounting, or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
1) Six plus years' experience with the administration of financial management policies in a higher education setting; with administration of sponsored projects, including familiarity with budgetary and compliance requirements of major funding agencies (federal, state, and private); and with administration of fee-for-service contracts.
2) Demonstrated experience with administration and development of business service operations.
3) Demonstrated skill and experience in leading and managing professional teams or administrative staff.
4) Strong computer and technology related skills including budgeting and financial software tools.
5) Superior oral and written communications skills.
6) Excellent organizational skills; ability to handle multiple and diverse projects, events and shifting priorities and deadlines is required.
7) Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated capacity for working well with others.
8) Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
10) Knowledge and experience with University and/or State fiscal, budget and administrative policies and processes is preferred.

Position Summary:
The Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's highly ranked School of Education is one of the first and most productive education research centers in the world. It has assisted scholars and practitioners develop, submit, conduct and share grant-funded education research for more than 50 years. WCER's mission is to improve educational outcomes for diverse student populations, impact education practice positively and foster collaborations among academic disciplines and practitioners. WCER generates more than $60 million of revenue in awards and services annually. WCER employs approximately 500 employees including academic staff, university staff, research associates, graduate assistants and undergraduates. Approximately 65 faculty from the School of Education and other units across campus are affiliated with WCER, acting as principal investigators or key personnel on grants and/or collaborating on other education initiatives in the center.

The WCER Director of Business Services leads and inspires a diverse team of professionals to support education research and product development by providing comprehensive services and creative, effective solutions to our WCER community. This position oversees a staff of 25 responsible for grants and contracts administration, budget development and administration, financial management of extramural funding and revenue generating units, and human resources management. The Director of Business Services is responsible for implementing strategic and long-range plans for the business office, as well as promoting advanced technology solutions for business services. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and creative ideas to this position and will work in a collaborative environment with the WCER Director and Associate Director, principal investigators, research staff, and administrators across campus to help keep this successful organization moving forward as we continue to expand our vision of advancing education for all.
