Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience in information technology
- Experience with Windows, Apple desktop support, and Mobile Operating systems (IOS/Android)
- Basic understanding of network topology, network structure and configuration, as well as protocols
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to empathize and professionally troubleshoot and resolve customer issues.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience working directly with students, faculty and staff
- Experience interfacing computers with instruments such as microscopes, plate-readers, scanners, etc.
- Extensive knowledge of multimedia software and tools (video, audio, digital imaging, lecture capture)
- Knowledge of best practices in educational technology
- Ability to develop and conduct flexible training for people with a wide variety of technical knowledge
- Mobile technology support (Android, IOS, and Windows)
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Active Directory
- Experience with networking configuration and concepts

Position Summary:
The UW School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) has earned a reputation as one of the leading schools of veterinary medicine in America. Located in several facilities on and near the scenic University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, the school houses a modern veterinary medical teaching hospital, UW Veterinary Care; high-tech equipment; and high-quality lab and classroom space for teaching and research. Within the school is the Computing Services department, which provides exceptional technology support for the SVM and its satellite offices. The current satellite facilities include Biotron, Charmany Instructional Facility (Mineral Point Road), Influenza Research Institute (IRI in UW Research Park), the IRI Annex, and the Robert P. Hanson Biomedical Sciences Lab. The Desktop Support Specialist has a wide range of responsibilities and duties. This person will work under the Director of Computing Services, but is expected to make independent decisions and establish and maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, staff, and students. The Computing Services department offers a unique "walk-in" support service model, which provides direct face-to-face service and support. This position requires great attention to detail and a very high level of customer service. The Computing Services department offers a relaxed working atmosphere and great opportunities to work with emerging technology.
