At least two years of professional administrative experience with progressively increasing responsibility in a combination of academic, programmatic, and/or operations management. Administrative experience at UW-Madison strongly preferred.

Position Summary:

Working under the general supervision of and reporting to the Department Chair, the position is responsible for overseeing the administrative responsibilities, daily operations, planning, budgeting, staffing, fundraising and outreach, and policy development of the Department.

This position provides critical support to the Cell and Regenerative Biology (CRB) Chair, faculty, staff, and students. Primary responsibilities include 1) responding to a wide variety of inquiries from members of the Department, the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), and campus; 2) conducting continual quality improvement to implement and oversee efficient, effective administrative processes; 3) providing oversight and recommendations to the Chair, Vice-Chair, and SMPH Financial Shared Services Director on the Department's budget and fiscal health; and 4) creating and maintaining effective working relationships with members of the Department, SMPH, and campus. The position plays a key role in enabling the Department to realize its joint mission of research, instruction, and service.

The position serves on SMPH and Department committees, and acts in place of the Chair or as the Chair's representative in dealing with management and administration of the academic unit, research and teaching, and staff supervision.

Additional Information:

Applicants must have an in-depth understanding of an academic department's multiple missions of education, research, and service. This position requires highly effective oral and written communication, organizational, and motivational skills. The ideal candidate will embrace personal accountability to meet tight and critical deadlines and take initiative to support department-related goals and priorities. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and a proven-record of excellent customer service, team-building, and/or collaboration a plus. Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft software a must.
