Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelors degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Math, Physics, Engineering, Computer Sciences or other hard science required. Strong background applying computational and statistical methods to molecular biology preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Academic and demonstrable professional success developing, implementing, and/or managing systems and databases required. Typically this will require at least two years of database-backed software development. The successful applicant will be a demonstrated self-starter with the ability to multitask and drive projects to completion. Expertise in developing customized solutions for complex challenges in genomics or immunology preferred.

The successful applicant will have intermediate to expert knowledge of Python, scientific computing tools for Python (e.g., core packages in the SciPy stack), and significant professional experience with at least one relational database (PosgreSQL preferred). Database expertise should be sufficient to create schemas to represent complex biological data, and the applicant should be proficient at authoring SQL queries.

The successful candidate is expected to be proficient in the creation of unit tests, analysis and debugging software code. Additionally, candidate must have experience with code versioning tools (e.g. SVN and GitHub) to support the development and maintenance of reliable, portable, and reproducible analyses.

Basic understanding of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3 is desirable, as is experience with R programming language. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to work with diverse groups of faculty, researchers, study personnel and support staff across departments is essential.
