Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Custodial Services Supervisor (CSS) perform the duties as a lead worker by facilitating work performed by Custodians and LTE's. Assist the CSS in developing custodial objectives and the tasks required to achieve them. Implement work plans under the direction of the CSS. Check work, assist with training and instruction on the proper cleaning methods and safe operation of all equipment. Remove faulty equipment from service, and make arrangements for repair, order supplies, and perform assigned custodial tasks.

The incumbent in this position must be proficient in English for the following reasons: the majority of communication with the supervisor is over the telephone; the Physical Plant, Central Answering and Response Service (CARS) staff frequently page this position to respond to spills, floods, special clean ups, immediate snow and ice removal, etc., and thus may need to communicate with customers regarding the situation; work area is often in an isolated area and the incumbent must be able to respond to a wide variety of assignments and emergency situations, thus communication with customers is essential; lab areas, high security areas, and high traffic areas necessitate employees be able to communicate with police officers, security guards, lab and museum personnel, and customers; and, most of our customers also work on the day shift where most of the work is responding to emergencies or to cleaning areas which cannot be cleaned at night due to security reasons and these customers ask many questions and make requests, thus communication is essential.

The first week is mandatory training on 2nd shift for non-Physical Plant employes.

Ability to perform physical labor including: lifting, bending, stooping, twisting, and other motions required in the performance of normal custodial duties.

Ability to speak, read and write in English and to follow written and oral instructions.

This position may occasionally be asked to work hours in excess of the normal work shift.

Position requires conviction record check. Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) will require Post-Offer Pre-Employment screenings on all selected candidates.

Schedule Comment:
Custodial Department, 2nd Shift, Crew 216, Wisconsin Institute of Discovery, Monday-Friday, 6:00 p.m-2:30 a.m., 30 minute unpaid break each day. Crew Locations
