Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a closely related field is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 2-3 years of progressively responsible related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in compensation and/or compensation-related functions preferred.

License or Certificate:

PHR/SPHR certification preferred.

Position Summary:

Position is located within the SMPH HR and reports to the Director of HR Operations.

Under general supervision, this position independently consults, reviews, provides analysis and approves compensation adjustments in accordance with prevailing University policy and SMPH guidelines. The position responsibilities include serving as a consultant on titling and compensation issues; determining appropriate actions for non-delegated transactions (vacancies, rate-title/discretionary merit compensation adjustments, promotions/reclassifications, etc.); providing consultation and assistance to stakeholders on HR procedures, policies and laws; developing human resources guidelines for assigned responsibility areas; conducting compensation analysis for faculty and staff; and designing leading practices for salary administration within SMPH.
This position will have a substantive role in the development, execution, and implementation of compensation and titling studies for SMPH. This will require extensive collaboration with HR colleagues (internal and external) and stakeholders (governance, managers/supervisors, employees, etc.) from across SMPH and the University.

This position is integral in supporting human resource programs that allow the School to attract, hire, and retain talent in all positions.

Additional Information:

Demonstrated successful experience in compensation planning and analysis, associated regulatory compliance, and competitive pay assessment.

Proven accomplishment in interpersonal communication as well as analytical and organizational skills.

Knowledge and Skills:
1. Compensation Program Management - Develops, modifies, administers, and maintains compensation programs for complex organization with multiple employment categories (e.g., occupational, salaried, hourly) Indicators of competence in this area include:
- Evidence of applying compensation principles and practices
- Experiencing using national, regional, and local market compensation data to provide expert consultation
- Evidence of applying analytical skills in the conduct of compensation studies and needed analysis
2. Titling Structure Management - Develops, modifies, administers, and maintains titling structures for complex organization with multiple employment categories (e.g., occupational, salaried, hourly) Indicators of competence in this area include:
- Knowledge of titling strategies
- Experience and knowledge creating and managing title structures
- Experience analyzing position responsibilities to determine accurate title placement
3. Human Resources Knowledge - Coordinates and administers Human Resource programs for complex organization with multiple employment categories (e.g., occupational, salaried, hourly) Indicators of competence in this area include:
- Maintains expertise in assigned HR functional area
- Understands HR functional areas outside of area of focus
- Knowledge of how functional area fits into larger HR strategy
- Ability to communicate HR ideas
- Understands, values and promotes diversity
- Has knowledge of enterprise-wide technology used for managing human resources
