Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience providing administrative services, organizational planning, communications, or related areas.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Top candidates will have previous successful experience providing effective support services managing multiple priorities timely, staying organized, and remain flexible and capable of adapting to changing environments. Experience with communications to multiple stakeholders, understanding customer needs and expectations, web content management, and event planning are all preferable. Extensive knowledge and skill working with Microsoft Office and WordPress (or equivalent) is necessary.

Position Summary:

The MS&E Department in the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison enrolls approximately 71 undergraduate students and 89 MS and PhD graduate students from all over the world. The department consists of 15.25 faculty members, 56 affiliate faculty members, 7 academic staff, 4 university staff members, 152 undergraduate students, 112 graduate students and 28 post-doctoral researchers. State expenditures exceed $2 million annually and department research expenditures approach $8.1 million annually from all its labs with funding designation including but not limited to: 101, 133, 135, 136,144,150, 167, and 233.

This position is responsible for independently planning, coordinating, and implementing successful, cost-effective communications, outreach strategies, and event support designed to support the department's strategic priorities, programs, services, and mission. It requires an understanding of the sensitivities of the department's stakeholders and customers and the ability to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies and local partners. This position establishes and maintains effective links with internal campus, college, department faculty committees--and external constituencies including visitors, donors, industry/discipline partners, and potential faculty hires in support of the mission of the department.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, willing to accept and initiate new projects, recognize opportunities, understand organization psychology, and practice a networked team-oriented work style. Proven ability to focus and independently oversee and organize multiple projects simultaneously--some with tight deadlines. Attention to detail with excellent time management, prioritizing, and organizational skills. Possess positive and strong communication skills, independent poblem solving skills, and apply critical and conceptual thinking.
