Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related area.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
-Two years of experience successfully supervising/managing a team.
-The competitive candidate will have at least 5 years of proven understanding of electronic health record (EHR) systems, data, and organization;
-Knowledge of SQL and database concepts; and
-Demonstrable programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, Perl, and others;
-Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulations governing EHR data;
-Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications
-7 or more years of relevant experience in EHR systems, data, and organization;
-Experience with health care systems and data (e.g. HL7 messaging and DICOM);
-Experience with Epic Clarity/Caboodle databases; and
-Experience with report design, data querying, data mining, or ontologies (especially in a clinical context).

Position Summary:
Working in the Biomedical Informatics Core (BMI) of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) and the UW-Health's - Enterprise Analytics (EA), the successful candidate will serve as the interface between faculty conducting clinical research projects and the rapidly evolving electronic health data warehouse in EA. EA is primarily dedicated to developing data warehousing capabilities for the UW-Health system with a main purpose being to advance cutting edge clinical research based on available information in the clinical record. A key activity of this position will be to work with both clinical researchers and other BMI staff to help to develop queries that translate research objectives into datasets retrieved from the data available in the data warehouse. The CRDS Team Lead will also actively plan and keep the data retrieval process sustainable by developing and implementing optimization processes, chargeback systems, and automatization.

The incumbent will provide guidance on projects that may involve data mining, data integration, Natural Language Processing, and data harmonization, using existing and new service lines, to ensure adequate framing of research data questions, outline potential solutions, present results, provide technical guidance, and advance a variety of clinical informatics and translational research initiatives. This process will also require collaboration with the honest broker as well as the systems programmer to ensure the secure delivery of data sets to research teams.

The Clinical Research Data Service Team Lead will report to the Associate Dean for Biomedical Informatics. This team lead will join a team of ~20 colleagues operating from both UW Madison and UW Health offices, including analysts, programmers, and systems administrators, all of whom contribute to clinical informatics. The CRDS team lead will manage/oversee 3-4 employees.

We are seeking an experienced informatician/analyst with expertise and skills to contribute to the improvement of existing and the development and offering of new informatics-related technologies associated with research applications, and help develop and present users with the best experience and deliverables (e.g. courses/trainings/workshops for a wide variety of audiences).
