Degree and area of specialization:

BA or BS required. Masters degree desirable. Bachelor's degree in biological or physical science or business administration preferred but will consider degrees in other disciplines

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of two years of substantial involvement in project management or sponsored programs administration is preferred. UW experience is a plus, as is familiarity with human resources and cost accounting principles. This position requires proven administrative capabilities; knowledge of research and sponsored programs; knowledge of post-award administration; and strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to working in a collaborative environment required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word and with database management tools, and have the ability to develop complex spreadsheets and grants-related database reports. The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of initiative, flexibility, and personal accountability; a successful record of project administration; ability to plan for and meet strict deadlines while being able to incorporate new challenges; and an understanding of state and university administrative policies. This position requires a significant degree of organization, and interaction with research faculty, staff, students, campus administrative departments, across the institutes associated with the Center, and federal research sponsors; and, therefore, requires excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates should be able to work independently and re-prioritize work as needed.

Position Summary:

The Upper Midwest Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Disease (MCE-VBD) is one of four Research Centers of Excellence chosen by the Centers for Disease Control to implement research and training activities related to mosquito and tick-borne disease. The MCE-VBD mission is to increase the understanding of vectors and vector-borne disease and to improve human health and quality of life through research and training in public health entomology. To accomplish this, the MCE-VBD will coordinate research in mosquito and tick-borne illness, outreach activities, and training opportunities at institutes in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan. The MCE-VBD is based at UW-Madison in the Departments of Entomology and Pathobiological Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), and the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), respectively.

The choice candidate for this position will work with the Principal Investigators (PIs) to support the MCE-VBD research and training activities by providing coordination and implementation of the center's administrative and outreach activities. This position requires the ability to maintain outstanding communication and interaction with the UW-Madison's OVCRGE, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), along with the department administration and the and Dean's office of both CALS and SVM.
