Degree and area of specialization:

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and architectural systems with a strong research focus.

Position Summary:
This position serves as one of the primary analysts and advisors to the UW-Madison Physical Plant Executive Director on administrative and managerial matters to ensure effective and efficient facilities management, maintenance, and repair. The position is responsible for planning and coordinating work execution in support of the customer's requirements related to the campus mission. This includes oversight of Work Intake, Service Desk operations, Customer Liaison functions, Facility Condition Assessment Programs and support to Work Intake Board.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison consists of some 60,000 students, faculty and staff housed in over 300 buildings containing more than 25,000,000 square feet on 900 acres of land. In addition, numerous research facilities are located throughout the State. The Skilled Trades & Specialized Crafts Program Section of the Physical Plant Department has direct and indirect responsibility for maintenance of these facilities working in conjunction with the mission of the University of Wisconsin to provide the best environment for its students and staff.

The position analyzes proposals and mandates issued by the State Division of Facilities Development & Management (DFDM), UW-System Administration (UWSA), Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) the University community and in-house staff and management. The position works with DFDM, UWSA, the University Administration, the various UW-Madison Schools and Colleges, and other FP&M units to promote the department's activities and secure financial and organizational support and assistance from those agencies. The responsibilities of this position include analyzing program needs, collecting data and information, developing options and plans, issuing recommendations, establishing priorities and assuming leadership for implementation and oversight of the assigned projects and programs that achieve organizational goals and identify long-term planning strategies.

The successful candidate for this position must be knowledgeable in facilities management operations, financial management, benchmarking and metrics, project management, and construction/maintenance best practices. The candidate must maintain a clear understanding of issues related to the operation of the Skilled Trades & Specialized Crafts Program Section; applicable State and University rules and regulations, limitations and authority levels; annual work plans; budget management; customer relations; and outreach and marketing aspects for the various programs. This position serves as a liaison between the Skilled Trades & Specialized Crafts Program Section and its customers, staff, Madison campus administrators, UW-Administration, DFDM, and other state and city government officials.

This position also provides certain analysis and administration related to the operations architectural and engineering services; document management and facilities manual and electronic information libraries; DFDM's Small Project Program; Space Remodeling and Policies Committee (SRPC); Facilities Audit and Condition analysis operations and software programs; enhancement of the computerized facilities management software system (CMMS). This position must ensure reliable and efficient development, implementation, performance, enhancement, upkeep and reporting of the department's initiatives and the department's management by information philosophy of operation.
