Minimum $95,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Degree and area of specialization:

Ph.D. Clinical Microbiology Bacteriology, Virology or Public Health

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 2 years experience in a clinical or public health laboratory. Individual with supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Experience in molecular diagnostics and epidemiology as applied primarily to infectious diseases. Experience in diagnostic methods development and evaluation. Experience with meeting clinical laboratory accreditation requirements. Experience teaching and mentoring other laboratory personnel. Knowledge of public health and clinical laboratory networking and administering public health laboratory programs preferred.

License or Certificate:

American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM) or American Board of Bioanalysts (ABB) certification eligible. Ability to pass Select Agent certification required.
Ability to pass Tier-1 Select Agrent certification required.

Position Summary:

This position is in the Communicable Disease Division (CDD) of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). The employee in this leadership position will function as an Assistant Director working closely with and under the general guidance of the Division Director and Deputy Director and participate as a member of the Division Leadership team. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, serving as a technical expert for all technical areas with in the CDD, overseeing new method development throughout the Division, participating in public health response planning and infectious disease outbreak response with public health partners, and engaging and advising clinical laboratory partners statewide. The individual will also carry out research studies with public health partners and be encouraged to participate in outreach and teaching activities. The individual will be required to be Tier 1 Select Agent qualified and will be a part of the CDD emergency on-call rotation.
