Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's Degree required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible administrative work and supervisory experience which includes student financial aid functions or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Strong organizational, analytical, detail, and communication skills required.

Experience with Campus Solutions (PeopleSoft) and Scholarship Application Software highly desired.

Position Summary:

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) endeavors to generate, evaluate, and implement strategic initiatives that create sustainable, long-term improvements in the University of Wisconsin - Madison's financial aid programs and in alignment with OSFA's student-centric mission, vision, and goals.

The Assistant Director of Special Awards serves as deputy and principal advisor to the Associate Director of Special Awards. Working independently to manage staff, the Assistant Director of Special Awards will collaborate with the Associate Director to establish and oversee the strategic direction and operational objectives of the Special Awards Unit. The Assistant Director of Special Awards also serves an as expert resource person within the Office of Financial Aid and as a liaison to the campus community on various key administrative policies and practices.

The Assistant Director of Special Awards reports directly to the Associate Director of Special Awards, is a member of the Office Leadership Team and assists the Associate Director in ensuring that all federal, state, NCAA, and institutional regulatory requirements are met. The position is the primary liaison with all 20 schools/colleges across the institution to assist in the stewardship of over $24 million of scholarship and award funding annually.

The Assistant Director of Special Awards oversees the unit's relationship with the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB) ensuring the accurate disbursement of over $13 million in state funding annually. The position also assists in the collaboration between the Office of Student Financial Aid and the Veteran Services & Military Assistance Center assisting in the accuracy of veterans' benefits reporting and the allocation of over $3.5 million in state veterans' funding.
