Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Agronomy, or a related Plant Science field is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

4 years of relevant work experience is preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication is required. Willingness to learn new techniques is required. Proficiency in software used for presentations, newsletters, spreadsheets and databases is required. Must be able to coordinate inspections with growers and manage time to gather necessary inspection criteria involved in outreach activities of the certification program. Must be willing to work independently and in collaboration with others.

Title prefix will be determined based on candidate qualifications at the time of offer.

Position Summary:

Work is performed in Antigo, WI for the commercial seed potato growers in the state and at the Lelah Starks elite foundation seed potato farm (the State Farm) located in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. The primary purpose of the work with the commercial seed potato growers is to provide necessary pest and pathogen information to allow certification and shipment of seed potatoes, the primary purpose of the farm is to provide elite foundation seed for certified seed growers in Wisconsin.

The person in this position helps ensure that the varieties produced are true to name and type, are below tolerance limits for common potato diseases through a process of inspecting, certifying, and tagging all certified seed potatoes in accordance with mandates of Wisconsin Administrative Statutes regulating these processes. This work is performed under limited supervision and requires a significant amount of travel throughout Wisconsin.

This person also will lead the agronomic team by assisting in production planning. This position will assure implementation of best practices in field operations and lead process improvement efforts.

SCHEDULE COMMENTS
Evening and weekend work will be required, specifically during the growing season. This is a 12 month full time academic staff appointment.
