Job Summary:

The Lancaster Ag Research Station consists of 530 acres of which 220 acres are tillable. Crops raised include alfalfa, corn, soybeans, small grains, and other forage crops. Crop acreage includes research projects and other areas used for production of feed to support the station's beef herd. It has approximately 200 acres of pasture that supports a beef cow herd of 120 head, plus it annually grazes about 50 yearling cattle. The station supports research and outreach needs for the development of profitable and environmentally sound agricultural systems appropriate for producers on unglaciated soils in the upper Midwest.

This Agricultural Research Equipment Operator position supports the crop production and research program. This includes operating farm equipment and performing manual labor for tillage, planting, and harvesting various crops and keeping necessary records. This position also involves care of the station cattle herd and building and grounds maintenance.

Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
Ok with exposure to dust.
A criminal background check will be conducted.

Potential Exposures and Hazards:
Dust and molds
Operating farm equipment
Herbicides, insecticides and fungicides
Lifting bales of straw and hay from 30 to 60 lbs.
Contact with beef animals, including bulls and cows during calving

Schedule Comment:

This position is for 9 months out of the year, and will have a seasonal 3 month short work break (SWB).

Approximately April 1 to December 31 and Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend duties as needed.

Seasonal break approximately January 1 to March 31.
