ACCOUNTANT


Position Summary:
This position performs professional accounting activities for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) Administration including, but not limited to, Business Services, CALS Research Division, and the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station (WAES) units. The position is responsible for the development of detailed financial documents/ statements related to program revenue activities, reviewing/auditing CALS departmental financial transactions, activities and expenditures, establishing/maintaining records and accounts within various accounting systems, and with project development and budget monitoring.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree preferred in Accounting or Business Administration.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
-Experience working with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
-Knowledge of governmental cost accounting practices and principles.
-Knowledge of and ability to interpret state statutes, federal regulations, administrative rules, and university, college, and department/center policies.
-Knowledge of computer applications, university accounting systems, and general financial applications.
-Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all persons with which the position interacts (i.e., peers, management, faculty/staff, departments/centers, divisional staff, agency contacts, public).
-Ability to identify problems and develop and implement a correction plan of action to resolve in accordance with governing regulations.
-Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
-High level ability to remain focused, attend to detail, meet deadlines, and perform efficiently and effectively under pressure, as well as the ability to independently determine priorities.
-Exhibit exceptional oral and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret State of Wisconsin, UW-System and UW-Madison travel policies and procedures.
-Ability to interpret and analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and budgets.
-Knowledge of UW accounting system preferred.
