Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Required:
1. At least two years of accounting experience required.
2. Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and requirements.
3. Ability to advise faculty and staff on policy, procedure, and technical applications related to purchasing and other financial processes.
4. Ability to balance incoming requests from multiple constituents timely and effectively.
5. Knowledge of computer applications, automated accounting systems, and general financial applications.
6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer software, particularly Excel and Word.
7. Effective written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills.
8. Well-developed abilities in the following: tact, judgment, flexibility, confidentiality, and independent decision making.
9. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Preferred:
1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of governmental accounting, including GAAP, strongly preferred.
2. Advanced knowledge of UW System regulations for travel and reimbursement.
3. Knowledge of appropriate use of UW Foundation and state funds for SMPH purchases.

Job title prefix is determined by years of relevant work experience.

Position Summary:
The Accountant will be a part of the financial team supporting the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and the Department of Urology, which are a part of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Accountant will provide clinical and research faculty, and research and administrative staff, with financial services. The Accountant's duties include budgeting and financial reporting, fund management, fiscal transaction approvals, and other work as needed. The incumbent will be required to gain a thorough knowledge of State, University, SMPH, and UW Health policies and procedures, and apply them to situations within their work.
