More than 4 years of work in a laboratory or office setting. Supervisory experience is preferred.

Knowledge and understanding of complex laboratory procedures.

Position Summary:

This supervisor position is responsible for management of the Client Services section and building facilities of the Barron Laboratory branch of the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL). Tasks include supervision of client services staff, planning and control of unit resources to ensure laboratory services of the highest quality are provided to meet the needs of our customers; and working cooperatively with other managers/supervisors in WVDL. Normal work hours for this position are 7:45am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, but may be flexible to accommodate a less than full time schedule. Weekend and evening hours may be required for travel to the Madison Laboratory or other emergency needs at the Barron Laboratory.

The person in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in their daily work by demonstrating exceptional customer service and establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisors, staff, and clients. This position also incorporates constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement; use of effective team-building skills to contribute to the operation of the Barron site; and participate in continuing education.

Responsibilities include work planning, work assignments, and management of staff; back-up responsibilities to client services staff; maintain and evaluate quality control with sample receiving and testing referral; and train and/or oversee training of new employees and existing staff. This position works as a collaborative team with other supervisors at the Barron and Madison Laboratories and is evaluated for performance by the Madison Section Head for Client Services.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL) is a high volume diagnostic laboratory that provides a broad range of veterinary disgnostic testing services to approximately 2,500 clients. Laboratories are located in both Madison and Barron.
