Job Summary:
The Arlington Agricultural Research Station (AARS) is the largest of 12 UW-Madison research stations. It supports a wide cross section of research and programs from 10 different departments in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). It is estimated that AARS supports over $3 million in research grants. The station consists of over 2000 owned and rented acres and is divided into 14 different crop and livestock research units. Administratively, CALS departments manage the research units and request services from Agricultural Research Stations (ARS) for feed, bedding, waste removal maintenance, and trucking. The ARS staff consists of 21 permanent classified staff, 4 academic staff, 2-3 LTE, and 4-6 students.

The main responsibility of this position is application of pesticides to crop research and cropland used for feed for livestock. Approximately 3000 acres are sprayed each year in over 300 batch mixes. Particular care must be given to application on crop research to ensure accurate and uniform application rates, and to avoid drift to nearby plots. This position will also be working with all aspects of field operation which include tillage, planting and harvest of corn, soybeans, small grains, and forages such as alfalfa and corn silage. This position is also responsible for operating tandem axle trucks, including semi-tractors, and gooseneck trailers for hauling feed, bedding, and equipment.

Requirements:
Commercial Driver's License

Additional Requirements:
A Criminal Background Check (CBC) will be conducted.
Hold or obtain within 6 months a valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A, B and C.
Hold or obtain within 6 months a valid Commercial Pesticide Applicators License.
Hold or obtain a valid Respirator Fit Test and Training Certification.

Potential Exposures and Hazards: Dust and Molds, Herbicides, Insecticides, Fungicides
Will be required to lift up to 60 pounds and climb heights to 70 feet.
Must be able to work in dusty and moldy conditions.
Contact with farm animals.
Attend 2 - 4 professional crop production educational events annually.

Schedule Comment:
Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Extra hours during week, weekend, and holidays as field work requires, especially during busy spring spray season.
