Research Associate

Position #F38300

The Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a Research Associate position in epidemiology (research faculty). We are seeking a motivated team member who will actively collaborate and contribute to funded research to infuse content and methodologies related to preventive oncology.

Located in Virginia’s state capital, just two hours south of Washington, DC, VCU boasts one of the country’s most comprehensive health sciences centers with excellent research and clinical facilities including the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, and Allied Health Professions. Additional campus resources include, but are not limited to, the NCI-designated Massey Cancer Center and VCU’s Center for Clinical and Translational Research, Center on Health Disparities, and Institute for Women’s Health. The Division of Epidemiology and the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health each have their own cadre of nationally and internationally recognized investigators who are at the forefront of the integration of public health and primary care, creating novel synergies for research and education.

Qualifications for Research Associate in Epidemiology: Candidates must have a PhD or ScD in epidemiology or a PhD in social and behavioral health.  Those with an interest and strong background in cancer epidemiology, epidemiologic methods, cancer screening and early detection, and behavioral interventions are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have publications in peer-reviewed journals, experience effectively working in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment, and have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially with students and faculty.

This is a unique position affording the successful candidate with opportunities to immediately contribute to currently funded research addressing disparities in cancer-related behaviors in both community- and clinic-based settings. Specifically, the candidate will play a lead role in facilitating NIH-funded intervention and dissemination/implementation studies, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.

All candidates should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. The position is non-tenure-earning with highly competitive salary commensurate with experience. Applicants should send a cover letter highlighting qualifications and research experience, curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of three professional references to: Resa M. Jones, MPH, PhD, search chair, Box 980212, Richmond, VA 23298-0212, or crcswisdm@vcu.edu. Applications will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
