The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications to fill a full-time 9-month term faculty (non-tenure track) teaching position at the level of Assistant Professor to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of mechanical engineering.



The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering is the largest department at VCU's School of Engineering, with total undergraduate and graduate enrollments around 530 and 110 students, respectively. The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering offers an ABET accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering with an optional major concentration in Nuclear Engineering, as well as MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering currently has 26 full-time faculty with research concentrations in functional materials, energy, and biomedical devices. Position: This is a teaching intensive, 9-month position. Teaching responsibilities may span the undergraduate mechanical engineering curriculum with expected emphasis in the areas of additive manufacturing, computational modeling, dynamics systems and controls, and engineering design. Graduate teaching responsibilities will focus on the candidate's area of specialty within mechanical engineering. Other responsibilities will include course and curriculum development, advising students, and serving on department, school and university committees.



Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline and demonstrate the ability to teach mechanical engineering courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Experience teaching undergraduate courses at a 4-year ABET accredited Engineering program is highly desirable. Junior candidates that have completed a formal teaching preparatory program are encouraged to apply. Specific experience with current additive manufacturing techniques, computational modeling, dynamics systems and controls, and engineering design is highly desired. The development of short courses at the graduate or professional levels is also of interest. Rank and salary are commensurate with the individual's record.
