Virginia Commonwealth University, set in the heart of the capital city of Richmond, Virginia, is a premiere urban research university with 32,000 students and a richly diverse university community with an academic medical center. The Department of Radiation Sciences located in the College of Health Professions seeks a full-time, 12-month faculty member for the Radiography program. This faculty will have teaching responsibilities (i.e., didactic, laboratory and clinical) in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and teach in core imaging sciences

 

About the Department of Radiation Sciences:

The department relocates to the new College of Health Professions building in summer 2019.  The innovative space will feature energized laboratories for all Department programs.  The Department offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Radiation Sciences for programs in Radiation Therapy, Radiography, Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The departments’ mission is to enable a diverse student body to develop its fullest potential and to graduate baccalaureate level radiologic technologists who demonstrate outstanding technical, communication and critical thinking skills.  The department is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.  Department faculty are expected to provide service to their profession and the university community.

 

Requirements:

A baccalaureate degree at the time of hire, certification in diagnostic medical sonography (ARDMS) with current clinical experience in sonography.  Applicants without a baccalaureate degree will be required to earn a master’s degree within 5 years of hire.  In addition, a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience and demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. The applicant should also demonstrate potential for independent research in the medical imaging professions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a collegiate educator in radiologic sciences
  • Multiple professional certifications (e.g., Abdomen, Ob/GYN, MSK, Vascular, etc.) by either ARDMS or ARRT.
  • History of professional service and research
  • Graduate degree

Responsibilities Include:

Teaching        

  • Develop and present coursework in the sonography program and core radiation science courses.
  • Pursue excellence by utilizing appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Develop course objectives, content collaboration with the department chair and in accordance with the program goals.
  • Actively participate in course and curricular evaluation and development.

Research

  • Contribute to the department’s research and scholarship profile.

 

Service

  • Actively participate in department, college, and/or university committees as needed
  • Serve in professional organizations (e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.).
  • Advise students, maintain student records.
  • Effectively communicate within and outside the department in order to achieve programmatic goals.

 

Other

  • Liaison with existing and potential clinical affiliates

 

The position will be available late June 2019.Salary, rank and tenure eligibility will be commensurate with education and experience.
