Geography -- Assistant Professor

Old Dominion University's Department of Political Science and Geography invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in its geography program to begin in August 2019. The department seeks a specialist in Geographic Information Science who can expand offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels as the program builds toward implementing a master's program in applied GIS . Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience or potential to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program and capable breadth to teach a variety of courses in geospatial techniques. Areas of specializations that complement existing program strengths are welcome, such as data science, geospatial intelligence, geovisualization, or web cartography, and geospatial applications including, but not limited to, physical, urban, economic, transportation, and/or human-environment interactions. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. S/he will also be able to situate knowledge in the field of geography within its social and historical contexts. Other duties include advising students and contributing service to the department and college.
