GENERAL INFORMATION: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. RESPONSIBILITIES: John Tyler Community College's Creative Services team is seeking a full-time Content Strategist. The Content Strategist will collaborate with partners throughout the college to develop successful communications strategies and keep information up-to-date, engaging and relevant for a wide variety of audiences. The incumbent for this position will drive content strategy and create original content for www.jtcc.edu, print publications, social media channels, advertisements, and more, as well as review, edit and proofread content submitted by area content managers. Candidates must be comfortable coordinating multiple projects simultaneously and leading projects from start to finish. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing an upcoming web site content audit and should have experience developing information architecture plans and web content strategy, including search engine optimization tactics and knowledge of Google Analytics. This position is based at Tyler's Midlothian Campus.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have considerable, demonstrated knowledge of writing effectively for a variety of mediums, particularly web. Applicants must be able to analyze project information, work with clients, and provide creative communications and marketing solutions. Applicants should have extensive experience developing content for multi-channel campaigns. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in information architecture and web content strategy, including search engine optimization tactics and knowledge of Google Analytics. Candidates must possess exceptional customer service skills and have excellent verbal and written communications skills. Applicants must be comfortable coordinating multiple projects simultaneously and leading projects from start to finish. Candidates must be comfortable working under tight deadlines and have the ability to work independently, as well as in a team. Applicants must have knowledge of proofreading and editing principles and be familiar with standard proofreaders' marks. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications: A degree in communications, marketing, English or a related field strongly preferred. Prior relevant work experience, preferably in higher education. Familiarity with AP Style. Demonstrated experience managing a web site content audit and redesign is a plus.

 

*All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.
