CHRO, VP for HR/Payroll and Faculty/Staff Life

George Mason University seeks candidates and nominations for their next Chief Human Resources Officer, Vice President for Human Resources and Payroll and Faculty/Staff Life (CHRO). Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Administration and Finance, the CHRO is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and continuous transformation and evaluation of a comprehensive and innovative Human Resources & Payroll program for George Mason University and all its faculty and staff. The CHRO is a vital participant of the Senior Vice President’s staff, and will provide valuable advice and counsel as a subject matter expert, as well as an engaged partner and collaborator. Working collaboratively with leaders across the campus and the Commonwealth of Virginia, the CHRO will oversee an effective, innovative and responsive human resources operation and will promote a high performing, diverse, and productive culture that attracts, develops and retains top talent.

The ideal candidate will possess all or many of the following abilities, attributes, and experiences including: a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in a relevant field; evidence of progressive experience in executive HR leadership roles; strong knowledge of human resource functions and technology, including extensive experience in organizational development and behavior, employee relations, employment law, compensation, benefits, talent management and development; a commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a record of promoting it; a record of attracting, mentoring and retaining high-quality talent and building vibrant, empowered teams from ambitious, individual contributors; strong listening and communication skills; a presence that earns trust, confidence and respect; and the ability to lead by influence and example; demonstrated ability to use data and statistics to solve real-world HR problems; demonstrated track record in leading, facilitating, implementing and communicating large-scale change management initiatives in complex organizations with diverse constituents; experience working with enterprise-wide administrative systems and in analyzing business processes; demonstrated success in working collaboratively, transparently, effectively, and enthusiastically within a complex environment; unparalleled personal integrity, credibility, ethics and initiative, culturally adept and savvy; a collaborative, thoughtful, transparent, courageous and authentic leadership style; have experience leading a human resources team and a payroll function in a similarly large, dynamic higher education and/or public sector environment is preferred; experience with federal/state employment laws and compliance, and IRS code benefit regulations is preferred; and experience with executive benefits and executive compensation is preferred.
