The Office of Health Promotion at the University of Virginia is seeking a well-rounded Assistant Director of Marketing. This position will lead the Department of Student Health’s efforts in providing strategic direction, planning, coordination, implementation, evaluation and continual improvement of a comprehensive, culturally competent portfolio of communication strategies and collateral designed to: brand the Department of Student Health, increase understanding and awareness of Departmental services, promote healthy behaviors, decision-making, and positive social change across the campus community. The Assistant Director of Marketing also participates on the Division Marketing council, and may be asked to contribute to division-wide marketing initiatives, both strategically and executionally.

 

A bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Design, or a related field is required. The incumbent must have at least five years of experience in public relations, social media, brand management, marketing, advertising, communications or a related field. The ability to execute a broad range of communications functions, including strong graphic design and multimedia skills is essential, as is knowledge of a variety of marketing channels, including print and web publications, videos/webinars, email, and social media. The incumbent must have demonstrated artistic and design abilities, including knowledge of relevant design technologies, trends and techniques such as the creation of infographics, with the ability to create and work with both print and digital formats. Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines is required. Excellent verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the proven ability to clearly articulate complex information in multiple forums to a range of audiences. The ability to draw upon significant relationships with internal and external constituents as needed is required, along with the ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive with pursuing collaborations. A demonstrated ability to effectively design and implement marketing and/or communications strategies for a major department within a college or university setting is preferred. In addition, experience working in public health communications and marketing with knowledge of best practices, and experience teaching and training collegiate health promotion and public health is also preferred.

The incumbent is required to possess advanced working knowledge of Web-based technology, social media, survey instruments, publication and media presentation software (i.e. Adobe Creative suite, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office suite). In addition, experience with graphics and photo imaging software including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Competency with Drupal web content management platform, as well as web design and development for mobile devices is also required.
