The Teacher Education Program at Bridgewater College invites outstanding teacher-scholars from racially or ethnically underrepresented backgrounds to apply for a full-time Teaching Fellowship beginning in August 2015, with the opportunity for a tenure-track appointment.

The successful candidate will teach courses in general curriculum and instruction, the profession of teaching, and/or assessment.  The Fellow will serve as a full, voting member of the Faculty Assembly at this undergraduate institution, teach undergraduate courses tailored to his/her interest areas in the field of Education, teach a reduced course load that allows time for research and scholarship, participate in a faculty development program that includes monthly workshops and peer discussion groups, and  work with a team of interested faculty on the Annual Pedagogy Project, a program that offers time and resources to develop techniques that encourage active and collaborative learning.

 Qualified Fellows will be Ph.D. or Ed.D. candidates who have completed “all but dissertation” or are recent graduates in an Education field. Candidates should have an understanding of assessment and technology to enhance learning and a commitment to teaching as a profession. This fellowship is being funded in part by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund for the purpose of increasing diversity and diversity education on campus, and the successful candidate must identify as a member of an underrepresented minority. Candidates should have had significant life or professional experience in working with diversity or underrepresented groups.

MISSION: Bridgewater College is a residential liberal arts college of 1800 students with a newly redesigned core curriculum and a growing focus on undergraduate research. GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia and has an educational philosophy of developing the whole person and equipping students to become leaders with a strong sense of personal accountability and civic responsibility. The College offers 63 majors and minors, 11 Concentrations/Specializations, Pre-professional Programs, Dual Degree Programs as well as Teacher Education and Certification. Bridgewater’s growing enrollment includes students from 30 states and eight countries. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, and sponsors 22 intercollegiate athletic teams and an equestrian team that competes in the IHSA. The beautiful and vibrant 300-acre residential campus includes an equestrian center and is located in the town of Bridgewater in the midst of the Shenandoah Valley.
