Postdoctoral Associate

Position Summary:
Several Postdoctoral Associate positions are available at VT MEMS Laboratory (Director: Dr. Masoud Agah) housed in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and affiliated by the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences ( SBES ). Responsibilities:
The postdoctoral associates in these positions will work as part of a team/independently to conduct research in one of the listed opportunities. Responsibilities include:
- Plan and conduct research.
- Assist with grant applications.
- Coordinate activities with other members of the VT MEMS lab and with other collaborators.
- Supervise students as needed.
- Pursue research goals with routine consultation but limited supervision.
- Assist in design, execution, and interpretation of research projects to gain practical experience in the field.
- Prepare professional presentations, reports, and publications.
- Engage in collaborative work with peers to achieve research objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a recent Ph.D. in engineering and should have demonstrated research competency in any of the following categories:
(Opportunity 1) : Analytical and micro analytical chemistry ( MEMS /microfluidics, Gas sensors, Micro Gas Chromatography)
(Opportunity 2) : Microfluidics/Nanotechnology for biophysical Characteristics of diseased cells (cell culture techniques, immunofluorescence staining, confocal and SEM microscopy, atomic force microscopy, cell biomechanics, microelectrode arrays, dielectrophoresis)
(Opportunity 3) : Integrated microsystems for chemical/gas analysis including electronics and sensor readout circuit design (embedded systems, electronic and microfluidic interfaces, smartphone communication, system integration, MEMS gas sensors, Micro Gas Chromatography)
(Opportunity 4) : Integrated microsystems for brain-machine interfacing (cell culture techniques preferably in primary neuronal culture, fluorescence imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetics, MEMS and microfluidics, optical fibers) NOTE : This opportunity is jointly supported by MEMS and NEBS Labs at ECE Department. NanoElectronics and BioSystems ( NEBS ) is directed by Dr. Xiaoting Jia.
