Assistant Professor of Building Construction

Position Summary:
The Department of Building Construction, within the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC), is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor position, whose teaching and research interests align the Department's goals. Recent initiatives at Virginia Tech include a new campus-wide, multi-disciplinary focus on Intelligent Infrastructure for Human-centered Communities. We seek an individual with demonstrated effectiveness in collaboration, scholarship, teaching and research funding and who shares our core values of service and "hands-on, minds-on" learning. The opening is for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, so future impact on teaching and research must be demonstrated. The Department of Building Construction is part of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC), a joint venture between the College of Engineering and the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. Tenure home will reside in the Department of Building Construction in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies.
Appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor carries with it professional responsibilities in teaching/learning, research/discovery, and outreach/engagement/service. Assistant Professors are expected to practice innovative modes of teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses in accordance with the Department's pedagogical traditions, conduct research and scholarship while developing and maintaining external funding and engage in outreach and/or service work, including community service-learning projects, service to the profession, service to students through advising work, and service to the Myers-Lawson School of Construction, the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, or University through participation on various committees.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in construction or a closely related discipline. We are seeking highly qualified candidates committed to a career in teaching, research and service. The successful candidate will be responsible for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and developing and maintaining scholarship and a recognized research program.

Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that applicants demonstrate research and teaching interests that align with Virginia Tech's new campus-wide, multi-disciplinary focus on Intelligent Infrastructure for Human-centered Communities.
