Vice Chair for Research

The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah is recruiting a Vice Chair for Research who will oversee department research programs and resources and advance interdisciplinary research collaborations at the University of Utah and collaborating institutions. The candidate should have MD/PhD or PhD degree. MD/PhD candidates should be subspecialty trained and board certified in radiology or received equivalent training. The appointment will be at the rank of Professor. This position reports to the Department chair and participates in the senior executive leadership team. The Department will provide the ideal candidate significant startup support, relocation budget to move the candidate's research laboratory and provide additional support for recruitment of research faculty members.
The candidates should have 1) a track record of imaging sciences publication in preclinical and/or clinical research, physics, biotechnology, or related fields of imaging sciences; 2) evidence of successful federal grant funding as the Principal Investigator; 3) experience in organizing research resources and high-end instrumentation; 4) national and international leadership; 5) knowledge in technology transfer; 6) successful research mentorship and laboratory organization; and 7) an ability to foster research teams and to advance multi-disciplinary research collaborations and programs in the rich research environment of the University of Utah. Preferences will be given to individuals who compliment one or more of the strategic research priorities of the University of Utah Health Sciences including Neurosciences, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, and/or diabetes and metabolic disorders.
The Department offers extensive imaging resources, including multiple preclinical and clinical MRI scanners, PET -CT scanners, microPET scanners, and radiochemistry facility, jointly operated with the School of Medicine and Huntsman Cancer Center. The Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research ( UCAIR ) in the Department offers international expertise in MRI research, PET physics research, and radiobiology research. Inter-disciplinary collaborations are ongoing with the College of Engineering, the Department of Biomedical Informatics, the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, and other basic and clinical sciences departments in the University of Utah and neighboring institutions.
