The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah seeks a toxicologist, clinical chemist, or clinical pathologist with expertise in clinical toxicology.

This faculty member will be a medical director of toxicology at ARUP Laboratories and join a team that directs the clinical analyses of therapeutic and illicit drugs and other toxicants with a specific emphasis on trace/toxic elements and pain management testing. The successful applicant will have experience in clinical assay development and validation, quality control and quality assurance, interpretation of laboratory test results, and consultation with physicians and other health care providers. Participation in the research and development efforts conducted at ARUP Laboratories, the academic mission of the Department of Pathology, providing education to laboratory staff, pathology residents, post-doctoral fellows, and other University of Utah students is also expected.

Applicants require a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree and at least five years of experience directing a clinical laboratory. The faculty appointment will be made at a rank (assistant/associate/full professor) commensurate with experience. PhD candidates should be board certified or eligible by ABCC and/or ABFT . MD candidates should be board certified or eligible in clinical pathology by ABP . NYDOH Certificate of Qualification (or eligible) for relevant specialty categories is also required. Expertise with primary technologies currently employed (immunoassay, HPLC , GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, TOF LC-MS, ICP -MS) and pharmacokinetic analyses is desirable as is research experience and a record of scholarly publications.
