The Division of Nephrology & Hypertension at the University of Utah is actively seeking outstanding investigators to fill faculty positions in the tenure track.

Applicants should have a MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degree and a demonstrated record of accomplishment as an investigator in clinical, translational or basic science related to nephrology and diabetes/metabolism or nephrology and cardiovascular diseases. Examples of these broad areas of overlapping disciplines are diabetic nephropathy and pathogenesis of hypertension. Diabetes & Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases are two major institutional research emphases at the University of Utah. These positions are jointly recruited by the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension, the Diabetes and Metabolism Center, and the Molecular Medicine Program. The primary appointment will be in the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension.

There are abundant opportunities to collaborate with excellent investigators in the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension, Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism, Diabetes and Metabolism Center, Department of Biochemistry, Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center ( GRECC ) at the Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Healthcare System ( VASLCHCS ), Department of Human Genetics, Division of Nutrition, Department of Exercise and Sport Science and multiple core facilities. There are also potential opportunities to build and lead a research program.
In addition to well-established independent investigators with a strong history of peer-reviewed funding, junior investigators with a highly promising early career trajectory are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates who will perform clinical work must be ABIM board-certified or board-eligible in Nephrology and must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Utah.

Academic track, rank, salary, salary guarantee and start-up funds will be commensurate with qualifications, needs and career goals.

The University of Utah is a notable environment for conducting research, serving as the only academic Health Sciences Center within a 500-mile radius. Among many others, the University is widely recognized for its strengths in genetics, the Utah Population Database that encompasses approximately 80% of the Utah population, health information technology, and close research collaborations with two key teaching affiliates in Salt Lake City, the VASLCHSC and Intermountain Healthcare. The VASLCHCS places a major emphasis on research and ranks #13 of 90 VA facilities in research funding.

The Salt Lake International Airport is only minutes from downtown and the city's expanding light rail transit system runs through campus to University Hospital.
