Director of Rehabilitation at University of Utah Health

University of Utah Health is seeking a Director of Rehabilitation and Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation ( PMR ) to lead a new Center for Rehabilitation, which will be part of an integrated health sciences campus that includes the School of Medicine, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Primary Children's Medical Center, and the College of Health, which includes research and training programs for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, audiology, nutrition and other areas related to rehabilitative care. With support from a major donor, the University will begin construction of a new 75-bed Rehabilitation Hospital in late 2017. The Hospital will be an innovative facility designed to promote interaction between embedded research teams, the clinical care team, students and patients. The hospital will be highly wired and IT capable, and will house satellite labs for technological development and testing, viewable from patient and family common areas.

The Division of PMR was founded in 1965 and includes 23 physician faculty, 4 rehabilitation psychologists, 2 neuropsychologists, 5 advanced practice clinicians, 18 residents and fellowship programs in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Psychology. The University is home to nationally recognized assistive technology, robotics and gaming programs and has strengths in rehabilitation outcomes assessment and health services research. The current 36-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility is the only multispecialty CARF accredited rehabilitation program in the Intermountain West.

The Center for Rehabilitation will bring together substantial institutional strength in rehabilitation science and related disciplines including translational and clinical neurosciences, clinical and research physical and occupational therapies and speech pathology programs, population health, bioengineering, bioinformatics, orthopedics and exercise science. The Director will oversee leadership of the PMR Division, work closely with the Rehabilitation Service Line, and foster continued development of the Center's relationships with other key stakeholders including the Neuroscience Initiative and the Colleges of Engineering and Health.

The successful candidate will have an MD and or PhD in a rehabilitation related discipline and will articulate a vision to build the Rehabilitation Hospital and Center for Rehabilitation with us. A history of substantial and sustained research funding, academic achievement and demonstrable administrative and leadership skills will be particularly valued. Candidates who meet these criteria from all disciplines and specialties will be considered.
