Director of the Nursing Informatics Specialty in the Master's Program

Position Summary: The University of Utah College of Nursing is seeking a Director of Nursing Informatics Specialty in the Master's program. We seek a candidate who has demonstrated a high level of professional leadership in the areas of informatics specialty practice, research and teaching, and engagement with national informatics organizations. Specific area of expertise should include one or more of the following: systems analysis, project management, implementation, feasibility, decision support and big data analytics.

Principal Functions and Responsibilities: As Director of the Nursing Informatics Specialty, this tenure or career line faculty will: plan, implement and evaluate program outcomes; oversee program-specific student recruitment, marketing, advisement, admission and progression in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Academic Programs; coordinate course content with other specialty directors and Biomedical Informatics Director; collaborate with Division Chairs for faculty development needs and teaching workload; and comply with accreditation and reporting requirements.

Criteria: Registered nurse with doctoral preparation or current enrollment in a doctoral program with academic and administrative experience in nursing informatics. Individual must be knowledgeable about the profession of nursing, higher education, research/scholarship, and health care delivery. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with individuals and groups, and demonstrate leadership/management abilities. Tenure line applicants would be expected to have a program of research in informatics.

College of Nursing: This scholar will join a cadre of dynamic interdisciplinary faculty engaged in team- based informatics research and training. Currently ranked 18th in the nation in NIH funding, the College of Nursing is a focal point for researchers and clinicians from the broader University to collaboratively improve individual, family, and community health, and quality of life in the Intermountain West. The Emma Eccles Jones Nursing Research Center provides infrastructure and support for the College of Nursing research mission, and includes a biostatistics core. With a long tradition of leadership and innovation in informatics, the University of Utah is currently ranked 7th among graduate nursing informatics programs by U.S. News & World Report. The University of Utah is home to multiple large informatics studies, including an NIH U54 related to development of an informatics center to support the Pediatric Research using Integrated Sensor Monitoring Systems ( PRISMS ) program, and an AHRQ R01 related to health information exchange. Informatics education at the University of Utah is highly transdisciplinary in nature and nursing informatics students and faculty are co-located with the School of Medicine Department of Biomedical Informatics. The two programs offer a joint certificate program and collaborate extensively in research and education.
