Brief Description:
The J. Willard Marriott Library seeks innovative applicants for the position of Associate Dean for Human Resources. This is a tenure-line position reporting directly to the Marriott Library Dean and University Librarian. This key leadership position supports the endeavors of the Marriott Library and the University of Utah. The Associate Dean is responsible for the development and implementation of organization-wide strategy, policies, and programs for human resources management functions for faculty, staff, and student employees. The Associate Dean serves as the primary administrator for academic promotion and tenure procedures, staff and faculty planning, recruitment, interviewing, hiring, performance reviews, work improvement initiatives, disciplinary actions, salary recommendations, and staff and faculty development and training including mentoring. The Associate Dean remains current on changes in the library field and human resources field and assumes an active leadership role within the human resources field and within the Library and on campus. This position supervises two full-time positions.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science, Public Administration, Human Resources, or related field
- Progressively responsible work experience
- Experience in human resources
- Experience in supervising/managing employees
- Knowledge of best practices in Human Resources
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Flexibility and creativity in accomplishing objectives
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, make reasoned decisions, and provide leadership in a consultative and collaborative environment
- Excellent oral and written communications
- Ability to support, mentor, and develop staff and faculty
- Ability to work with diverse groups within the Library and across campus
- Qualified for tenure upon job offer
Desired qualifications:
- Second master’s degree
- Familiarity with online human resources systems
- Working experience in a library with faculty status for librarians
- Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with information technology and library-relevant information technology applications
- Reading, writing, or speaking skills in a second language
Compensation: $110,000-125,000 dependent on qualifications, plus excellent benefits including a 14.2% retirement contribution to TIAA-CREF/Fidelity, medical and dental coverage, and generous paid sick and vacation time.
