The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CvEEN) at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Transportation Engineering with a start date of August 15, 2018. The position is anticipated to be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates applying at the Associate Professor level must have a well-established academic record, including scholarly publications and externally-funded research. The successful applicants will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within CvEEN; develop a sustained, externally-funded research program; mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students; and provide departmental, college, and university service. An earned doctorate in a field closely aligned with transportation engineering before the date of hire is required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies are also necessary.

All areas of expertise within transportation engineering will be given full consideration. The intellectual depth, innovation, and promise of the candidates, as well as their ability to participate in multidisciplinary research collaborations, are of higher priority than their specific research areas. Areas of particular interest to support the Department's enhanced focus on collaborations throughout the College and University include:

• Intelligent and sustainable urban freight systems;
• Cyber-enabled humanitarian logistics;
• Smart transportation infrastructure engineering and management;
• Big data and Internet of Things with applications in transportation; and
• Application of sensing technologies in support of smart cities initiatives.

Candidates will also be evaluated based on their ability to demonstrate strong core fundamentals in one or more areas such as data analytics, operations research/systems analysis, geographic information science, artificial intelligence, economic analysis, and risk sciences that will allow diverse work across disciplinary boundaries.

The University of Utah College of Engineering has grown significantly in the past decade.
